As cases of coronavirus continue to increase globally, Manobata stands in solidarity with all those affected by the crises. Like all emergencies and humanitarian crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic will hit the poor and the most marginalized the hardest.
We are taking all necessary steps to protect the health and safety of our staff and the communities with whom we work. Manobata has launched a coronavirus fundraising appeal to help the vulnerable communities to stop the spread of the virus and save lives.
With the government lockdown order and inadequate state provisions for food distribution, several families are sleeping hungry. We are giving food to the vulnerable groups so that no one should have to sleep hungry. The local generous persons have come forward to support us providing relief to the helpless.
Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country of an area of about 1,47,570 sq. km. with a population nearing 140 million. The country is the largest delta in the world formed by the mighty rivers namely the Padma, the Meghna, and the Jamuna. Bangladesh has special geographical features. It has the Himalayan range to the north. The Bay of Bengal to the south with its funneling towards the Meghna estuary and the vast stretch of Indian land to the west.
The combined effects of the role played by this special geographical feature have a significant bearing on the weather system of Bangladesh. The weather system is not always favorable. Due to this weather system, Bangladesh becomes the worst victim of natural calamities causing colossal loss of lives and properties. Most of the people in this country are very poor.
